HbA1c Test in Karachi

An HbA1c blood test estimates average blood glucose over roughly the previous two to three months and may be used to screen for or monitor diabetes under medical guidance.

What does HbA1c show?

Glucose attaches to hemoglobin in red blood cells. HbA1c reports the percentage of hemoglobin with glucose attached, providing a longer-term view than a single glucose reading.

Why may a doctor request it?

  • To screen for or help diagnose prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.
  • To monitor longer-term glucose control in a person with diabetes.
  • To review treatment progress together with other clinical information.

Important interpretation note

No fasting is listed in the CCL directory. Pregnancy, anemia, blood disorders, kidney or liver disease and certain medicines may affect interpretation. Do not change treatment based only on a website explanation or one result.
